SQRD

Let's lead citizens towards zero waste.

Mobile Application, Web Application

The customer.

Having started in the early 2000s, the Quebec Waste Reduction Week (SQRD) aims to promote waste reduction initiatives inspired by the theme "Consuming differently" in order to decrease the environmental impact of individuals, businesses, organizations, and municipalities.

The issue.

In the context of the 20th anniversary of the SQRD in 2020, the client wanted to find a way to encourage active citizen participation in waste reduction challenges and maximize the impact of the awareness campaign. Wanting to innovate, the organization Zero Waste Quebec wanted to offer a fun and educational application related to waste reduction, allowing users to discover new, more ecological and responsible consumption methods. That's why the organization reached out to Recursyve.

The solution.

We have developed a mobile application available on iOS and Android platforms offering challenges related to waste reduction. Through the application, the user earns points for each completed challenge to unlock unique badges. They can also join groups to earn points with their friends.

The user profile.

The user can create an account on the platform through a variety of social options such as Facebook, Google, and Apple. After completing their profile, a questionnaire to calculate their ecological footprint is available. The user can invite friends to join the application to complete challenges in turn. In order to have a collective impact, it is also possible to create a group by inviting friends to take on team challenges.

The challenges of reduction.

Reduction challenges are divided into several distinct categories. Each category contains challenges suitable for everyone, from beginner to advanced level. In order to access the various challenges, the user must watch an educational video on the category's topic. Then, for each challenge undertaken, the user earns points. Through the homepage, the user can see their ongoing challenges and the number of points accumulated. During the 9 days of the Quebec Waste Reduction Week, daily challenges with a limited duration of one day are also featured on the homepage.

The badges.

When the user completes challenges and accumulates points, it allows them to earn badges. Each category contains at least three badges, and they are all different. There are also additional badges to be earned by taking actions on the application, such as recording their ecological footprint. These badges reflect the user's progress in challenges and allow them to see at which level they stand in relation to the different categories.

The groups.

The user can create and/or join groups, both public and private, in order to take on challenges with friends and accumulate points. Inviting someone to a group can be done through a link or using the search bar provided for this purpose if the group is public. If the user is part of a group or if the group is public, it is possible to see the ranking of participants.

Administrator portal.

To better classify the application users, a secure web portal has been set up to visualize data such as regions and age groups that have shown the most interest in the application, as well as data collected on users and their participation in various accessible challenges. Administrators can also create new challenges for users at any time during the year.
